What's New:

  • Joint Outreach Event Calendar
The Office of Former Worker Screening Programs is proud to announce the Outreach Event Calendar for DOE Nuclear Weapons Workers is now available on the HSS website. The Joint Outreach Event Calendar provides a list of upcoming outreach events in the communities near DOE nuclear facilities. Contributions to the calendar are provided by the following agencies: the Department of Energy (DOE) through the Former Worker Medical Screening Program (FWP), the Department of Labor (DOL), the Ombudsman's Office for DOL, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), the Ombudsman's Office for NIOSH, whose mission is to assist DOE nuclear weapons workers through programs such as: the Former Worker Medical Screening Program or Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act (EEOICPA) Program.

  • 851 Awareness Training Workshop October 28-29
Sponsored by DOE Office of Health Safety and Security, the Energy Facility Contractors Group, DOE unions, National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, and the Volpentest HAMMER Training and Education Center.

  • NTC Training Collaboration Plan: Safety Training Self Assessment - The DOE Office of Health, Safety and Security (HSS) and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) signed a memorandum of understanding on February 4, 2009, in an expanded effort to communicate and improve relationships with those elements that train, manage, and represent the DOE workforce and to improve the safety culture at DOE sites. The objective of this collaboration is to seek areas/topics HSS, the NIEHS, and NIEHS grantees can collaborate with site programs to enhance the safety of site operations through training. The National Training Center (NTC), within HSS, will be the lead for HSS. In addition to the HSS-NTC, a representative, designated by site federal management, will be included as one of the collaborators. The focus of this effort will be on health and safety training to meet the requirements of Title 10 CFR Part 851, Worker Healthy and Safety Program Rule. To this end, the collaborators will conduct a self-assessment in order to identify training gaps that may exist in the NTC/site/union/etc. training that is available to site workers.

  • Active Labor Unions Interfacing With DOE is an informational booklet intended to give many audiences a more clear understanding about the health and safety issues facing DOE workers, provide a means for resolving these issues, and represent a model of collaboration and transparency. Although the informational booklet is not an exhaustive list of Unions represented within DOE, it provides a substantive representation and includes those Unions with which HSS has been actively involved through HSS Focus Group efforts. The booklet also documents progress to date in an ongoing dialogue between DOE, its union representatives, and other stakeholders intended to focus attention on worker health and safety issues.

  • The HSS Outreach and Collaboration Website is continually being updated to serve as a centralized communications venue and document/informational clearinghouse related to DOE worker health, safety and security. The topical organization of the Document Library is intended to support a quick informational resource/reference capability. As we work toward continued development and utility of the site, your feedback is welcomed and encouraged: Please send input and/or suggestions to: HSSUserSupport @hq.doe.gov.
